Here Comes Tomorrow: Laclede Groves Breaks Ground on $48 Million Expansion

The sun was shining, the weather was warm…October 14 was the perfect day to begin a new chapter. And that’s just what Laclede Groves did as the Webster Groves, Missouri, senior living community broke ground on a new $48.7 million expansion that would propel it into tomorrow.

More than 200 supporters were on hand, including residents past, present, and future, for the ceremony that welcomed such dignitaries as State Representative Jeanne Kirkton and Webster Groves Mayor Gerry Welch. “People want to live their entire lives in Webster Groves,” Welch beamed from the podium. “Thanks to Laclede Groves, people now have another opportunity to age in place.”

That’s just what Laclede Groves has in mind. The expansion will bring 80 new independent living apartments to the community, as well as innovative new skilled nursing households, and a Town Center that will house a wide array of new amenities, from on-site dining, to a private movie theater, to an indoor therapy pool.

Designed by Perkins Eastman and headed by PARIC Construction, the project will bring some 600 new construction jobs to the Webster Groves area.

Laclede Groves was the first major community built by Lutheran Senior Services, and so it holds a special place in the organization. “Laclede Groves is our oldest and largest community,” LSS President John Kotovsky told the crowd. “In many ways, the success of Laclede Groves has shaped the success of Lutheran Senior Services over the years. And so we’re very excited to begin this new chapter.”
