Lutheran Senior Services had another outstanding year supporting the United Way in 2011, as LSS residents and staff raised 7.6% more to help those in need than the year before.
Employee pledges to support the United Way totalled more than $77,000 this year, with an additional $27,287 coming in as a result of special events and donations from residents. As a result, LSS was able to present United Way agencies in the areas we serve with more than $104,000 in support.
While every LSS community and program did its part, our United Way fundraising committee singled out two locations for special recognition, as Lenoir Woods in Columbia, Missouri, increased its amount raised by an amazing 74%, and Heisinger Bluffs & St. Joseph’s Bluffs in Jefferson City upped their total by 68%!
Around the world, local United Way chapters work to help individuals and families achieve their human potential through education, income stability, and healthy lives. The organization aids a wide range of support agencies throughout the LSS service areas, including LSS’ volunteer program and three LSS in-home programs: Outreach Social Services, the Good Neighbor Program, and Volunteer Money Management.
