Specifically designed around spaces where daily life happens, our private and companion skilled nursing rooms provide opportunities for excellent 24-hour professional nursing care.

To serve your loved one’s unique needs, we offer two types of care environments:

• The Skilled Nursing Households at St. Joseph’s Bluffs

  Specifically designed around spaces where daily life happens, St. Joseph’s Bluffs’ four skilled nursing households are smaller settings for just 12-14 residents each. The households are modeled after a real family home, and staffed by specially trained teams of flexible caregivers.

  Here, the emphasis is on the social experience, with shared living rooms, daily group activities, and family-style meals prepared on-site in the heart of each household — the warm, inviting kitchen. The result is a close-knit community with a real family feel.

• The Skilled Nursing Care Center at Heisinger Bluffs
  Heisinger Bluffs houses a more traditional neighborhood-style skilled nursing care center. Here, you’ll find the same person-centered philosophy of care, dedicated staff, and beautiful surroundings, but with a greater emphasis on privacy and personal space.

Services and Amenities

Our Skilled Nursing Households and Care Center provide all the comforts of home, plus so much more.

We offer:

• Private and companion rooms at Heisinger Bluffs’ Care Center; private rooms and companion suites in St. Joseph’s Bluffs’ households.
• Exceptional 24-hour health care, including a state-of-the-art therapy department.
• Three meals prepared daily.

• A neighborhood market, a spa, and a hair salon/barber shop, all located just steps away.
• Medication assistance.
• A wireless urgent call system.

For our residents’ comfort and convenience, physical, occupational, and speech therapies are available on-site through our REACH Wellness program.

Our recreation team designs a unique and varied calendar of events each month, with an eye toward emphasizing the familiar and maintaining mental and physical activity.

There’s always something happening at Heisinger & St. Joseph’s Bluffs, from exercise classes to discussion groups, from movie nights in the Living Room to bus rides off campus. And if you ever find something that’s not on the calendar, let us know! We’re always looking for new ideas.

One of the most popular features of life in our communities is our fabulous on-site dining. Our attentive dining services staff is always ready to assist our residents! In our care center, residents can enjoy three meals a day in our beautifully appointed dining room, with meal plans included in their service fee.

As Executive Director for Heisinger & St. Joseph’s Bluffs, Sherry King has 30 years of long-term care experience. She joined Lutheran Senior Services in 2000 after serving in a variety of senior living positions. Sherry attended Northeast Missouri State University. She lives in Jefferson City with her husband and enjoys being a grandmother to one grandson and surrogate grandmother to her two grandnieces and one grandnephew.

The administrator of independent living and senior living counselor of Heisinger & St. Joseph's Bluffs, Grace Hoffmann has more than 36 years of experience in senior care. She joined Lutheran Senior Services in 2004 after working in a variety of senior living administrative positions. She and her husband live in the Jefferson City area.

Paula joined the Lutheran Senior Services family in 2006, serving residents at Lenoir Woods. She moved to Heisinger & St. Joseph's Bluffs as the Community Nurse Leader in May 2009. Paula also had the honor of being part of the team that opened the Households and REACH Short Stay Rehabilitation program at the St. Joseph’s Bluffs campus. A native of St. Louis, she received her associate’s degree in nursing from the Community College at Meramec. She had an aunt and uncle who both lived at Laclede Groves; her mother now resides in LSS’ The Village at Mackenzie Place community.

With Lutheran Senior Services since 2006, Director of Dining Services at Heisinger & St. Joseph's Bluffs Mary Simpson worked for 32 years as a general manager in the restaurant industry. She enjoys bringing a new perspective to dining services. Mary lives in Jefferson City with her husband of 35 years. She has three children and five grandchildren, all of whom live in the area.

The chaplain at Heisinger & St. Joseph's Bluffs since 2008, Rev. James (Jim) Mueller entered the seminary at Concordia Theological Seminary in St. Louis in 2003 and completed his Master of Divinity Studies in 2008. He completed his vicarage at Laclede Groves senior living community in St. Louis from 2006 to 2007. Before entering the seminary, Jim was a farmer and greenhouse operator in southeast Missouri. Jim lives in Jefferson City with his wife, Cindy. They have two grown children, Anna and Jacob.

Drew joined Lutheran Senior Services in June 2011 as an administrative intern at Breeze Park in St. Charles, MO. He moved to Jefferson City and joined Heisinger & St. Joseph's Bluffs in April 2012 as their Administrator in Training. Drew attended the University of Missouri and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and will graduate in February 2013 with a Masters in Healthcare Administration.

Director of Stewardship Ron Freiburghaus is committed to building the benevolent care endowment for residents who have outlived their resources. With 20 years of experience in fund development and estate planning at organizations such as Yale University, Missouri State Teachers Foundation and the University of Missouri, Ron holds a bachelor's and law degree from the University of Missouri. He works closely with volunteers and residents to offer wonderful opportunities to experience the joy of giving. Many of the financial options he proposes provide tax-advantaged, fixed income for life at an attractive rate of return or do not involve current assets. His wife, Mary, is an advanced practice nurse at the Cosmopolitan Diabetes Center at University Hospital.
