Welcome to Hidden Lake
Leo and Bunchie Jorwic
The couple moved to Hidden Lake last summer after Bunchie’s macular degeneration required her to start seeking additional help.
“We’re northsiders,” says Leo. “We’ve lived over in Blackjack (a nearby town) since our marriage in 1987. And Hidden Lake is a neighborhood institution. So we were well familiar with this place. We’re very happy with our decision.”
Since moving in, the Jorwics have been involved in all kinds of aspects of community life. “You can’t help but participate,” says Leo. “You’ve got all these things coming at you. Entertainment in the Hearth, trips out to restaurants…I’ve even volunteered to be secretary for the residents’ association. The people here are very friendly, and they all want you to get involved.”
Still happy together after 25 years, the Jorwics feel like they’re ready for the future in their house at Hidden Lake. “When you move out of a home you’ve lived in for umpteen years, it’s a big step to take,” he says. “But it’s worth it. This was a good move for us. We’re pleased with our experience. Very pleased.”
Elva Schubert
Elva Schubert is right where she wants to be.
For years, Elva has been visiting friends at Hidden Lake. In fact, she and her husband sat in on the meeting where construction on the community was first announced more than 25 years ago. “I’ve been thinking about this place for a long time,” she says. “I’ll be 90 years old soon, and a 90-year-old woman shouldn’t have to live alone after raising seven kids.”
One smooth transition later, Elva has taken to life at Hidden Lake beautifully, taking advantage of all the activities the community can schedule. “She loves it here. She’s always out with her new friends,” her daughter Mary laughs. “She tells me she’s the new queen of Hidden Lake. And I don’t doubt it!”

Jim Clindaniel has more than 30 years' experience in the health care field, more than a third of which has been spent working in senior living. He holds an MBA from New Hampshire College, a bachelor's in health care management from Southern Illinois University, and an associate's in pharmacy technology from the Community College of the Air Force. Currently, he lives in Edwardsville, Illinois, with his wife Mary and the youngest of their five children.

Phyllis Downs joined the LSS marketing team in 2011 as the senior living counselor at Hidden Lake. She has been assisting older adults in Minneapolis and St. Louis fulfill their independent living needs since 2004. Phyllis has two grown children and lives with her husband Brian in downtown St. Louis. She really enjoys her works and strives to make a positive difference in the lives of the older adults and family members she comes in contact with every day.

Stacey started working for LSS in 2008 at its Meridian Village community, then transferred to Hidden Lake in 2009. She has over 15 years working in the health field, starting with a career as a certified medical assistant in a local doctors office. She has been married for 25 years to her husband Richard and has two wonderful daughters, Meghan and Rachel.

As the director of Dining Services, Martha Cunningham brings more than 30 years of experience in food and nutrition to Hidden Lake. She is a registered and licensed dietitian, having graduated from Fontbonne College. Prior to coming to Hidden Lake, Martha oversaw the nutritional needs of the Franciscan Sisters of Mary, before which she spent 15 years with the Sisters of Saint Mary’s Health Care System. Martha and her husband Larry have two grown children. She lives in St. Charles, Missouri.
Chaplain

The Chaplain at Hidden Like since 2002, Chaplain Randy Shields earned his doctorate in theology at Concordia Seminary in St. Louis. His advanced studies allowed him to have teaching experiences at both college and seminary levels of education. Prior to becoming a chaplain with Lutheran Senior Services, he served for 16 years as the campus pastor at Concordia University in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Becky comes to Hidden Lake with over 20 years of experience in Christian stewardship and planned giving with retirement communities. As we all live longer, the challenge to meet our personal and financial goals in serving self, family and others becomes more challenging.
