One of the most popular features of life at Meramec Bluffs is our fabulous on-site dining. Our attentive dining services staff is always ready to assist you! Residents in our independent living apartments and patio homes can enjoy meals in our dining room or packaged to go, with meal plans included in their monthly service fee. Meanwhile, our REACH Short Stay, assisted living, memory care, and care center dining areas provide table service for three meals a day.

Welcome to Meramec Bluffs
Bill and Jackie Lindhorst
“We wanted to find a place like this while we were still young enough to be able to enjoy it.” And now that they’re both retired, Bill and Jackie are making the most of their new-found time together.
“We looked at some other places but nothing compared to this,” Jackie says. “Our kids call this a resort. They spend as much time here as we do. We even have dinner with them in the dining room some evenings.”
“We ended up selling our house faster than we expected,” Jackie says, “and even before we moved in the staff was helping us. They took care of everything 100 percent. Things like storage, turning off the utilities, finding a moving company, the whole thing.”
Today, Bill and Jackie Lindhorst are starting their second year in their new patio home, and they couldn’t be more pleased. “There are so many nice people here,” Bill says. “We’ve made a lot of new friends in here, more than we’ve ever had before.”
But, the person Jackie most enjoys seeing each day is Bill. “Bill was working so hard for so long, this has been the first time in a very long time that we have been able to do things together,” Jackie says, “and I intend to enjoy that for a long time to come!”
The Best Move We Ever Made
“I’m a missionary for the United Methodist Church,” Dick Vreeland says. “My field is accounting. And the first assignment I had was to create an internal audit system for a 600-bed hospital in Vellore, India.” From 1960 to 1964, Dick trained internal auditors and helped establish modern finance standards for the facility. Quite a first job, right?
Dick’s duties also took him around the United States before he and his wife Peg settled down back in St. Louis. Through family friends, the Vreelands learned about Meramec Bluffs, which was just being built at the time.
Tragically, Peg passed away soon after they made the move into their new apartment. Dick had made many transitions in his life, from moving to India, to readjusting to rural life after living in a city of several million…but this transition could have been his toughest.
“In retrospect,” he says, “living here made transition quite a bit easier. The staff was extremely helpful. The community was very supportive, and my transition to being a bachelor was made as easy as it could’ve been. I continued doing many of the things Peg and I used to do as a family. My family just grew to include everyone in the building. It made a bad, bad experience one I could get through.”
Today, Dick is grateful for his new family at Meramec Bluffs. “When you open your life up,” he says, “it’s amazing what might happen.”

From Monday through Friday, medical professionals from St. Luke’s Hospital are available on-site to meet with residents to discuss their health needs. Services offered include:

The Primary Care Clinic’s Staff Includes…
Primary Care Physician
Dr. Usry sees patients on Wednesday mornings from 8 a.m. to Noon in the Primary Care Clinic at Meramec Bluffs. He is board certified in family medicine and is a member of TriCounty Family Practice at WingHaven®. He completed his residency training in 2007 at St. John’s Mercy Medical Center, where he also served as chief resident for the department of family medicine. His special interests include geriatric and family medicine.
Working with Dr. Usry, Nurse Practitioner, Jenna Sanders is on-site to treat you Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 8 a.m. to Noon (Dr. Usry sees patients on Wednesday mornings). Visit the Clinic if you have a minor illness or injury, such as a sore throat, earache, sprain, strain or any other medical concern. She has been with St. Luke’s Hospital since 2013 as a nurse practitioner and previously worked as a cardiac nurse in a hospital step-down unit for 6 years.

The Executive Director of Meramec Bluffs, Terry Etling has worked at LSS for 20 years, starting as Community Administrator of the Breeze Park community in St. Charles. A Certified Aging Services Professional, she has worked in long-term care for over 30 years. Terry earned her master’s degree from Webster University in management with an emphasis in Health Care.
Administrator of Care Center
Maryann returned to Meramec Bluffs as the Care Center Administrator in November of 2014. Prior to that she had been the Director of Nursing at Meramec Bluffs for two years. Maryann has over twenty five years of experience as a RN in a variety of settings. She worked for fifteen years as a Director of Nursing in skilled nursing and three years as a Manager in the Acute Care field. She received her RN degree from Missouri Baptist School of Nursing and was awarded the Missouri Baptist Doctor’s Scholarship for academic excellence.
Senior Living Counselor
Mimi Linhares has been with Meramec Bluffs for the past eleven years. Her prior sales and marketing experience were in the executive suite field, where she leased and managed commercial office space, and in the Communications Department at St. Luke's Hospital. Mimi has been married for 38 years to her husband, George, and they have five children and four grandchildren.
Director of Community Sales & Marketing
Mary grew up in Lake of the Ozarks and graduated from Florida Southern College with a degree in Elementary Education. She has made St. Louis her home for 16 years. After staying home to raise her children, she started a career in Real Estate as a Community Sales Manager for a national home builder. When the housing market crashed, Mary transitioned to sales and marketing in the Senior Housing Industry where she has worked at both the community and regional level bringing 12 years of experience to her role as Director of Community Sales and Marketing for Meramec Bluffs.
Director of Dining Services
Mark Cromley attended Northwest Missouri State University, earning a Bachelors in Science in Restaurant and Food Service Management with a Business Minor. He then spent 26 years at Aramark Corporation in their Business Services and Higher Education divisions including accounts at UMSL, Wichita State, Southwest Illinois College, Maritz, Boeing, Citi Mortgage, Federal Reserve, Washington University, and Saint Louis University. In September 2015, Mark joined Lutheran Senior Services as the Director of Dining for Meramec Bluffs.

Deaconess Gayle has been a chaplain at Meramec Bluffs for ten years. She graduated from the University of Missouri-Kansas City with degrees in psychology and sociology, and from Concordia Seminary with a master’s degree in Deaconess Studies in 2006. She joined the staff at Meramec Bluffs shortly thereafter. Deaconess Gayle is married and has seven children and five grandchildren.

Maggy Spencer has been with LSS since 2003. Hired as Director of Marketing, she moved into Stewardship after several years. Her background includes twelve years in funeral service, specializing in prearranged and estate funeral plans. Prior to this she worked in the hospitality area, representing Kraft Foodservice, and later Angelica Uniform. Maggy's focus has always been on exemplary customer service. She has a master's degree from Webster University and a bachelor's degree from Washington University. She is a licensed funeral director as well as licensed in insurance for health and life. She serves as Director of Stewardship for Meramec Bluffs.
