Highlights

  • Within the Collinsville city limits is home of the famous Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site.  Back around 1250 AD, Cahokia was larger than London, with a population of around 20,000-30,000.  The citizens who lived there built structures for their homes, as well as public works.  The mounds and other works are available for the public to see, as well as a museum and visitors’ center.
  •  For those who enjoy a more wacky culture, you will be happy to learn that Collinsville is famously considered the “Horseradish Capitol of the World”.  85% of the world’s horseradish is produced in Collinsville, made with such high quality that numerous countries import it for gourmet use.  To learn more, attend the annual International Horseradish Fest!  If that isn’t wacky enough, make sure to stop by and see the “World’s Largest Catsup Bottle”, a large water tower in the shape of a ketchup bottle that has become a landmark and roadside attraction.
  •  If you enjoy all types of recreation, the Collinsville Rec is the place to be.  With outdoor park pavilions, to the Splash City family waterpark, to the Arlington Greens golf course, the Collinsville Rec has it all.  Adult and Senior Citizen classes are available as well, ranging from gardening to photography to bike maintenance.  Day trips, winery tours, lap swims, and adult luaus all make Collinsville Rec the place to visit often.
  •  For the cowboys and cowgirls in all of us, Wild Country is a must.  Make sure to join on Wednesday nights for the return of the taping of St. Louis Country with the gang from WIL.  Put on your boots, and get ready to be famous by showing off those line dancing moves on TV!
