Hospice Care St Louis LSS

HOSPICE CARE IN THE GREATER ST. LOUIS AREA

Loving Care for End of Life

It’s a tender time. A time that calls for grace-filled caregivers who consider hospice care a faith-inspired calling. Every member of our hospice team is personally committed to each patient’s care and comfort. The patient and family define directives and determine a requested care plan with the aid of the patient’s personal physician. This includes an interdisciplinary approach to pain management through nursing care, providing case management, social work, and chaplain support. Emotional, spiritual, and practical support is given based on the patient’s wishes and the family’s needs. Family and dear friends are supported so they can focus on time together. Our Promise

  • Provide care in the place you call home — a private home in the community, a senior living residence, assisted living community, long term care, or memory care setting.
  • Help everyone involved understand what to expect by communicating openly and honestly.
  • Honor family traditions, faiths, and beliefs to meet each patient and family where they are on their spiritual journey of any faith or religious background.
  • Share our expertise to allow a natural, peaceful, and dignified death.
  • Be there to listen, grieve, celebrate life, and show the love of Jesus Christ to all we serve.
  • Be there for the days to come, helping to share and shoulder the grief through our bereavement program.

Medicare and Healthcare Coverage

LSS Hospice is Medicare- and Medicaid-certified, and accepts some private insurance, upon approval. We’re honored to serve adults of any age. Our medical director, Dr. Ehab Kaiser, is board-certified in hospice care.

Hospice is a philosophy of care that focuses on comfort and quality of life for those facing a life-limiting illness. It’s a holistic approach to medical care, pain management, family relationships, spiritual comfort, and emotional health. Support is tailored to the person’s and family’s beliefs and needs. People who receive hospice care are no longer receiving curative treatment for their underlying disease.

  • When life expectancy is six months or less if the illness runs its normal course of progression
  • When treatments emphasizing a cure are no longer effective or become more than the person chooses to bear
  • When the focus of care shifts to pain and symptom relief so the remaining time of life is comfortable
  • When a person suffering from cancer, congestive heart failure, ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease), kidney or liver disease, chronic lung disease, AIDS, and/or a stroke reaches the end stage of the disease process
  • When an evaluation takes place by the hospice team and results indicate a hospice plan is warranted
  • The patient’s personal physician initiates a referral, and care planning begins.
  • Our hospice team learns as much about the patient as possible to holistically assess body, mind, and spirit.
  • Personalized recommendations regarding pain relief and symptom management are made regarding medications, equipment, supplies, and supportive services.
  • Care is implemented as quickly as needed to ensure the comfort and well-being of the patient and family members.

Music Therapy

Music has been shown to help with pain management, encourage movement, and stimulate memory recall. LSS employs music therapy to address physical, cognitive, social, emotional, and spiritual needs during Hospice Care.
