Lutheran Senior Services (LSS) is built on a 160-year history of care and service, with a strong financial foundation. As a not-for-profit organization, LSS is unique because of the LSS Christian Core Values that are lived out in our communities and through our services every day.
LSS serves many different senior populations. Options for assisted living offer a full continuum of care for older adults in Greater St. Louis, central Missouri, and central Illinois. LSS provides income-based Affordable Housing in Missouri and Illinois. The organization also supports older adults with Aging Answers. These outreach services help older adults get the help they need and access benefits available to them. LSS REACH Short Stay Rehabilitation helps older adults recover from surgery, illness, or injury with focus on achieving rehabilitation goals after a hospital stay. If services are needed in the home, LSS Home and Community Based Services are available.
One of the greatest benefits of being a not-for-profit is that LSS doesn’t have to earn profits for shareholders. A report from the Center for Medicare Advocacy shows that not-for-profit senior living communities have more and higher quality staffing levels. LSS is also able to invest more into programs and activities for our residents.
Another benefit of not having to pay out profits to shareholders is that LSS is constantly reinvesting into our senior living communities and services to provide residents with updated surroundings and convenient amenities. These updates are taking place at LSS communities in big and small ways. Mason Pointe in Town and Country, Missouri, has new Independent Living apartments, a Wellness Center, and a Community Center under construction. Just last year, Lenoir Woods in Columbia, Missouri, completed a multi-year expansion project that added a Wellness Center, additional Independent Living apartments, a new Care Center and REACH Short Stay Rehabilitation. This spring, an expansion to include Memory Care Assisted Living began at Concordia Village, and Lutheran Hillside Village will break ground this summer to begin construction on a Wellness Center with multiple amenities. At all our communities throughout Greater St. Louis, central Missouri, and central Illinois, common spaces are renovated and reimagined regularly. Even outdoor spaces get refreshed seasonally.
Like any industry, senior living has some years that are better than others. By reserving resources from better years LSS is able to get through the lean years, giving our organization and our communities greater stability. This means LSS can retain high quality staff who know they have a sound future with LSS, which is vital to the experience of our residents. It also is important for residents to know they are becoming part of a community that is backed by an organization focused on the responsible stewardship of resources.
Of course, LSS can’t do all of this alone. We have many partners and supporters in our Christian Mission of Older Adults Living Life to the Fullest (based on John 10:10). Without them, none of this would be possible. With focus on being responsible stewards of resources and providing quality services, LSS looks forward to continuing the mission for many years to come.
