When you love what you do, it shows. Judi Hoffman is one of those people. A counselor for adults, she works with people ages 30 and older to improve their mental health and wellbeing.
“I’ve always been interested in people so I think that’s why I’ve continued to do this,” said Hoffman, a resident at Laclede Groves, a Lutheran Senior Services Life Plan Community in Webster Groves, Missouri. “I really do love it. I enjoy trying to help people.”
Hoffman has been practicing as a counselor for 22 years. She practices holistically taking into consideration everything: Physical wellbeing, nutrition, exercise, and spirituality. By focusing on the mind-body connection she’s able to help her clients through whatever is troubling them.
Four years ago, Hoffman made a change in her life that has helped her be able to continue her practice at a time when many of her colleagues were retiring. She moved to Laclede Groves. Originally drawn to the history of the buildings and the beauty of the campus, Hoffman has since found many more benefits to her decision.
“I have no anxiety when it snows,” said Hoffman. “The streets and driveways are clean so I’m able to get to work.”
In addition to cleared streets and driveways, Laclede Groves takes care of home maintenance, housekeeping, and much more, giving Hoffman more time and energy to focus on her clients. She appreciates the friendliness of the staff and residents and the lovely chapel, which is open to all residents. Hoffman also enjoys the new friends she’s made since moving in and the opportunities for activities and continued learning Laclede Groves offers. And of course, the beautiful surroundings of her home.
“Here, my spiritual wellbeing benefits from of all the trees, paths, walkways, and access to nature,” added Hoffman.
And when the counselor is well taken care of, she’s better able to take care of others.
